Radio Campus Bangalore is a student’s association. The radio was created in 2012 by 3 friends of NSB Bangalore. The aim of these 3 friends was to create a radio completely new, animated and managed by students in order to create a radio completely destined to students. The output would be to represent and to have a strong reach on youth culture of Bangalore. A community place where all students would recognize themselves.
The radio is located in NSB Bangalore and has raised money by making financial partnerships with business schools and universities of Bangalore. Radio Campus Bangalore has then a foot in almost every school of the city and every students of the “campus” can join the radio and share his ideas in animating a radio show or his musical background by working on the playlist.
Today around 40 volunteers are accomplishing a great work within the association. The radio aims to reach 80 people by the end of the year and on a long term basis to find substantial financial partnerships in order to employ some peoples.
The scope of activities of the radio is so wide that whatever your talent or your skills are: you can join the radio and share it with us. The association is divided in 5 units:
- Programmation: This is the core of the radio. The programmation unit is in charge of the relation with the labels in order to receive CDs from them. They create the identity of the radio by choosing what songs we add into the playlist and what shows do we accept or not on the grid of programs. The people working in this unit are the guarantors of the quality of the radio.
- Animation: Radio shows spots are available from 7 am to 11pm. In order to gain a place for a show during the week, the students (usually 3-5 students per weekly show) can create a draft with a name, a concept, a visual material, and the agenda of a show. If the project is accepted by the chief of programmation, the students can then create a Facebook fan page and a Soundcloud’s account for their show in order to give access to podcasts and information regarding their show. They can also create a Skype account in order to be reachable by the auditors when they are “ON AIR”. Every single show is running like a small company within Radio Campus Bangalore. They can organize event to promote their show, they can make videos, they can find partnerships in order to make the auditors to gain some gifts (venue tickets, theatre tickets, etc.).
- Events: the radio is really focused on the student’s culture. Regarding this, it is important to provide for student’s bands to be able to play their music and share their passion in venues. Radio Campus Bangalore makes it real. The association organizes 1 live concert per week. Partnerships with many bars and venues have made it possible. The concerts are free for the people to come, the artists play for free, and they just want to share their culture. Other events more costly for the association are also organised. Famous artists come to play in venues and allow some young band to play in the first part of the show. In this way, the radio makes a small entree fee in order to pay the big band. It is a way to make communication about the radio.
- Recording: In order to promote youth culture, the radio gives the possibility to students to record their own EPs for a small amount of money. The radio has partnerships with local recording studios giving a discount for students coming from the radio to record their songs.
- Communication: This unit is a transversal unit helping all of the other units. 20 people are working on the communication of the brand association by the way of the Facebook fan page of the radio, by creating visuals, by helping the shows to find their slogans, their jingles, to improve their concepts, to find partnerships for the shows, etc. The communication is also in charge of the website of the radio. A team is dedicated within the unit to the student’s actuality, giving some news on what is happening in Bangalore, where to go, what interesting things are going on (live concerts, parties, etc.).
Basically if you are a student and if you are in a band, go and meet Radio Campus Bangalore. The radio will help you to record your songs, will make your promotion via its website and Facebook fan page, will play your songs in the playlist and organize your concerts. You only have to play, Radio Campus Bangalore brings you the success.
